A little Slider History
These tasty and simple sliders make them a popular choice for parties or any type of gatherings. And kids LOVE them!
“Sliders” likely originated from diner cooks who were sliding small, thin patties of beef onto fresh mini-buns, making them easy to handle and eat.
The king of sliders, White Castle, restaurant started the slider trend in 1921 in Wichita, Kansas. Their sliders are small, square beef patties with “caramelized” onions and pickles served on a steamed mini bun. They sliders were inexpensive and quickly gained popularity during the early 20th century and continued into the 21st. Thanks to the founders of White Castle, sliders have been staple of American culture for over 100 years.
Current Slider Trends
Modern day restaurants and chains have their own unique spin on sliders. Different toppings, sauces, and condiments are used to cater different tastes.
There are even gourmet versions that can be found at food trucks and even upscale restaurants. Some slider ideas I look forward to trying are Lobster Roll Sliders, Pulled Pork Sliders and Korean BBQ sliders. It seems the ideas are endless.
