House Guest Favorite Autumn Sangria

Autumn Sangria–Sangria isn’t just for summer. This sangria was my first attempt at any type of sangria. It seemed to be a hit so here’s the recipe for those not ready to put away the sangria pitcher until next summer’s BBQ season.

The sweetness of this sangria depends on the wine you choose. I went with a basic $7 red blend that I bought at Aldi. It wasn’t a sweet wine, but I didn’t need the added sugar. You can add brown sugar or honey to taste and make it just as sweet as your Autumn Sangria palate desires. Letting it rest for 24 hours in the fridge really makes the flavors come together, and remember not to leave the fruit behind in the pitcher (very tasty).

My choice for Autumn Sangria wine from Aldi

I used 3 cinnamon sticks and thought it had a strong enough cinnamon taste that serving it warm as the temperatures drop outside might be a nice option. Also, the addition of a few pomegranate seeds would add to the autumn presentation and make it even little healthier.

Autumn Sangria

Ingredients:
2-3 cinnamon sticks
2 Honeycrisp apples, chopped
1 orange, thinly sliced
10 red grapes (optional)
seeds from half a pomegranate (optional)
1 (750 ml) bottle red wine
1 ¾ cups apple cider
½ cup brandy
¼ cup orange juice
juice from 1 lemon
club soda, to taste (I used about 3/4 a bottle)
1-2 Tablespoons brown sugar or honey to taste (optional if you want it sweeter)

Directions:
PLACE the cinnamon sticks, apples, orange slices in a large pitcher (grapes and pomegranate seeds if you’re using) . ADD wine, apple cider, brandy, orange juice, and lemon juice. REFRIGERATE for at least 6 hours, but 24 hours allows more time for flavors to come together. TASTE before serving and adjust sweetness with sugar or honey and the amount of club soda to taste.
